Bit of Oregon - Idaho - Montana
A slight modification to our plans to make a shorter driving day, will have us spending the night in Boise. Along the way we stopped at a remote historical marker for John Baptiste Charbonneau (son of Sacajawea). While taking a rock photo opportunity, we met a fellow traveler from New Jersey. This was just the beginning of “it's a small world” meetings.
Boise was the highlight city of a trip west two years ago. We arrived about 3 pm and did a bit of antiquing. I found the old fashioned biscuit cutter for $2 so that became my find of the day. Dinner was at Lucky Fins the restaurant we ate at 2 years ago. Their halibut was great ... both times!
Walking around downtown after dinner we were stopped by a guy asking about Woody's Moosehead Lake Shirt. Turns out he is a fan of Moosehead Lake and spent a good deal of time in Beaver Cove. Not only that but he has such fond memories of his time there that he has the zip code 04441 tattooed down his arm. I took a picture of it...amazing. Never too far from home. ''This takes the cake for “it's a small world” sightings.
Left Boise to take back roads toward Missoula. While still on the interstate in Idaho we saw fields of yellow which turned out to be canola fields. Following the phone GPS for Rt 12 we took Luke's Gulch Rd which eventually turned to a dirt road...not Woody's favorite route. Once following the Payette River the scenery was gorgeous...very reminiscent of the movie The River Runs Through It. Once again fire damage was evident along the route near Lola, MT. Stayed at Comfort Inn right next to a motel we said we'd never stay at again, The Thunderbird. The Clark Fork River was at flood stage and could be seen right from the window of our room. Dinner was at Outback.
